LDEA Confiscates Illicit Drug, Valued At U.S. One Million

MONROVIA, August. 7 (LINA) - The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has confiscated a consignment of Illicit drugs worth One Million United States Dollars.

Speaking to Liberia News Agency (LINA) on Wednesday in Monrovia, the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the LDEA, Christopher Peter, revealed that the illicit drugs which were arrested at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) and the Bo Waterside border point, include Methamphetamine and Kush.

He added that the LDEA collaborated with the Bureau of Customs in the confiscation of two boxes containing substances said to be tea which were discovered to be narcotic drugs.

According to him, the LDEA conducted a test on the substance arrested at RIA, contained in two boxes and both tests came out positive for Methamphetamine and Kush.

He said following the interrogation of the suspects, Raymond Kpehe and Michael Brow, both Liberians, they were charged for importation, transporting and conspiracy to import narcotic substances.

He said a third suspect, Mohammed Nyallar – a Sierra Leonean national, was also arrested, investigated and charged as an accomplice to the importation of narcotic substances.

The OIC noted that the importation of narcotic substances in Liberia is a violation of section 14.83 of the 2023 drug laws, as well as section 10.4 and 10.2 of the Penal Law of Liberia.

In related development, OIC Peter stated that the LDEA Grand Cape Mount County detachment in collaboration with the joint security, searched and seized 31 kilograms of Kush on board a white minibus with a Guinean license plate driven by suspect Abass Sannoh, a Guinean national.

The LDEA boss unearthed that suspect Sannoh, a resident of Gardnerville was investigated and charged for transporting and possession of illegal substances.

He added that Abass is in violation of sections 14.85 and 14. 89 of the new drug laws as well as section 50.5 and 50.6 of the Penal Law of Liberia.

The street value of the 31 kilograms of cannabis Kush seized at Bo Waterside is put at US$600 thousand.
