MPW Optimistic About Its Octopus Strategy —As Major Road Equipment Shipment Heads to Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia: The Ministry of Public Works (MPW)  announces that a major consignment of road construction and maintenance equipment is currently being prepared for shipment to Liberia, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s infrastructure capacity.   The Deputy Minister for Technical Services, Prince D. Tambah, is presently in the People’s Republic of China, accompanied by the Ministry’s Director of Mobile Division, to supervise the loading and final arrangements of the shipment. Loading of the cargo vessel is ongoing and is expected to be completed ahead of its scheduled departure on Thursday, January 15, 2026. The vessel is projected to take 45 to 50 days to arrive at the Free Port of Monrovia.   The first shipment will comprise a significant fleet of heavy-duty and support equipment, including:  

• 19 Bulldozers
• 19 Excavators
• 19 Low-bed trailers
• 19 Fuel tankers
• 19 Water tankers
• 19 Service trucks
• 20 Utility pickup trucks  

Upon arrival in Monrovia, the equipment will be offloaded at the port and subsequently processed through the General Services Agency (GSA) coding and registration exercises. Following completion of these administrative procedures, the Ministry confirms that the equipment will be immediately deployed to the counties to support ongoing and planned public works projects across the country.   Meanwhile, preparations are already underway for a second shipment, which will include the remaining equipment. This final batch is expected to depart towards the end of January, further reinforcing the Ministry’s equipment pool.   The Ministry of Public Works asserts that the acquisition and deployment of these assets underscore the government's commitment to improving road connectivity, maintenance capacity, and overall infrastructure development nationwide.
