President Boakai, U.S. Senator Alsobrooks Discuss Investment and Implementation of Liberia–Maryland Partnership

A key focus of the meeting was the implementation of the historic Memorandum of Understanding signed between Liberia and the State of Maryland in June 2026. The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in trade and investment, education, workforce development, agriculture, technology, infrastructure, tourism, public administration, and cultural exchange. Maryland Governor’s Office⁠ and the Embassy of Liberia in Washington⁠ previously announced details of the agreement.   President Boakai stressed the need to move the agreement from paper to practical action that creates jobs, improves skills, and expands opportunities for Liberians. He also outlined his Administration’s priorities in democratic governance, peace and security, economic transformation, human-capital development, and increased private-sector investment.   The discussions explored opportunities for cooperation between Liberia and institutions in the State of Maryland, particularly in areas of education, workforce training, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology. Both sides also highlighted the importance of the strong historical and people-to-people ties connecting Liberia and the State of Maryland.   Senator Alsobrooks welcomed the partnership and expressed support for its objectives. Her backing is expected to help build momentum for the implementation of the agreement and strengthen engagement between Liberia, Maryland institutions, and the private sector.   Senator Alsobrooks was elected to the United States Senate in 2024 after serving as County Executive of Prince George’s County. Her public-service record includes work in education, healthcare, economic opportunity, public safety, and community development. U.S. Senate⁠ President Boakai was accompanied by Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti; Minister Without Portfolio Hadja Mamaka Bility; National Security Advisor Samuel Kofi Woods; Director General of the Cabinet Nathaniel T. Kwabo; Liberian Ambassador to the United States Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh; Executive Assistant to the President Morie Nemah; and other officials.   The meeting formed part of President Boakai’s engagements in Washington, D.C., aimed at securing stronger partnerships and tangible development opportunities for Liberia.
