LACC Launches Corruption Risk Assessments Across Government Institutions
The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has officially commenced Corruption Risk Assessments (CRA) across Ministries, Agencies, and Commissions (MACs). On Friday, March 13, 2025, a delegation led by Ms. Vivian S. Akoto, Executive Assistant/Program Manager in the Office of the Executive Chairperson, and Mr. John E. Tommy, Program Manager for Education & Prevention, held inception meetings with the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA). Ms. Akoto emphasized that the Corruption Risk Assessment is not an investigation. Rather, it is a preventive tool designed to identify institutional vulnerabilities and strengthen internal systems, policies, and structures in order to prevent corruption before it occurs. This exercise is rooted in Part IV, Section H of the LACC Act, which mandates the Commission to advise and assist private, civil society institutions relative to designing and implementing procedures and systems that are appropriate to reducing the likelihood of the occurrence of corruption.  In concluding statement, Mr. Tommy added that the goal is to intervene before irregularities occur, noting that, β€œWhere internal policies contradict the law or create loopholes, the LACC will provide formal recommendations for immediate improvement.” The administrations of the Cooperative Development Agency (CDA) and the National Lottery Authority (NLA) welcomed the initiative, expressing their commitment to the assessment process as a means of strengthening their systems and policies against corruption.
