ZWEDRU, June 15 (LINA) – The Last Mile Health (LMH) has handed over the direct implementation of the National Community Health Assistance Program (NCHAP) to the Grand Gedeh County Health Team (GGCHT).

The handover ceremonies were officially done on Wednesday June 12, 2024, in Zwedru Grand Gedeh County.

In partnership with the Government of Liberia, LMH over the years, fought AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, piloted the Community Health Workers Program in Konobo District and achieved 100 percent coverage of the district.

It partnered with the Ministry of Health and other partners to design and launch the NCHAP to extend primary health care to 1.2 million people in Liberia.

Among other activities, the institution organized training for more than 1,300 health workers and community members to educate communities, refer patients to care and contain the spread of Ebola.

Amid the handover of direct implementation of the NCHAP to the County Health Team, the organization, however, remains engaged with the MOH in the development and strengthening of the community health system.

During the occasion, Ben Grant, Director for Program Implementation, LMH gave the overview of the program. According to him the institution has made huge intervention in health delivery and training of Community Health Workers across the county.

He called on the Grand Gedeh County Health Team to continuously support the NCHAP in the county.

Also making remarks, the County Administrative Officer, Henry Zonweay praised LMH for immensely contributing to the health needs of Grand Gedeans.

Zonweay pledged the Local Government's support in strengthening good health care delivery in the county.

The occasion was graced by health partners, Local Government officials, Civil Society Groups, community members amongst others.

LMH – a Non-Governmental Organization, was founded in 2007 in rural Liberia as Tiyatien Health, to address the devastating realities concerning the lack of access to health care in remote communities.
