GoL Endorses National Development Plan
MONROVIA, Dec 5 (LINA) – The Government of Liberia has endorsed its ambitious National Development Plan (NDP), known as the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development (AAID), along with the complementary 15 County Development Agendas (CDAs), aimed at steering the nation's progress from 2025 to 2029.
Speaking at the National Steering Committee Meeting held at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Complex on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine K. Ngafuan, emphasized that the NDP represents a collaborative vision crafted with input from diverse stakeholders, including government officials, private sector representatives, civil society organizations, development partners, and citizens from across Liberia.
Minister Ngafuan highlighted the overarching goals of the NDP and CDAs, which include promoting inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, prioritizing infrastructure development and technological innovation, and enhancing social well-being and governance systems.
He noted that with an estimated cost of US$8.4 billion over five years, the government aims to contribute 30 percent of the funding, while 70 percent is expected to come from private sector investments, development partners, and the Liberian diaspora.
To achieve these targets, he said, the government has committed to strengthening domestic resource mobilization, ensuring fiscal sustainability, and deepening trade integration through initiatives such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Minister Ngafuan described the plan’s endorsement as a critical milestone, underscoring the importance of meaningful engagement and feedback.
"This is not just a procedural exercise. It is a platform for all Liberians to contribute towards shaping a collective vision for our future," he said.
The endorsement, according to him, comes after months of consultations and validation efforts, with stakeholders working to align the development framework with the real needs and aspirations of the Liberian people.
The Minister also acknowledged Liberia’s pressing challenges, including poverty, inequality, unemployment, and underdevelopment, which the plan aims to address.
He expressed gratitude to President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. for his leadership in steering the planning process and urged all stakeholders to fully commit to the implementation of the NDP and CDAs, stressing the importance of unity, dedication, and partnerships for the success of this ambitious initiative.
He added that the formal launch of the ARREST Agenda and CDAs is expected in January, signaling the beginning of Liberia's journey toward sustainable development and transformation.
"This plan is our roadmap to a brighter and more prosperous Liberia. Let us work together to make it a reality," Ngafuan concluded.
