Government conditionally lifts shutdown order on China Union Investment Liberia

The Government of Liberia, through the Environmental Protection Agency, has conditionally lifted its shutdown order on China Union.

The EPA had shut down China Union Bong Mines Co. Ltd. on August 28 due to the company’s operation without an environmental permit and its persistent refusal to honor fines and notices sent to it for these violations.

The company since requested a temporary reprieve from the EPA and committed to regularize its status in line with applicable laws.

Based on the company’s commitment to adhere to the environmental laws and regulations in place, the EPA has conditionally granted the company’s request to operate for the next three months while they regularize their status.
