The National Commission on Higher Education (NCHE) has refuted media publication from the local newspaper accusing its Executive Director Dr. Edward L. Wonkeryor of corruption, terming the report as incorrect, malicious, unfounded, and misleading.
"We want to say in this public manner that such allegation against the incorruptible and erudite Executive Director is malicious, unfounded, and misleading and it is intended to tarnish the hard-earned reputation of Prof. Dr. Wonkeryor", the dispatch from NCHE issued on Sept. 4, 2024 rebuffed the allegation from the paper.
The NCHE's statement noted that its Executive Director Dr. Wonkeryor โremains optimistic to uphold the highest standards of transparency, honesty, and accountabilityโ.
"We strongly believe that this is a smear campaign against Prof. Wonkeryor by his detractors and people who donโt want to see good things emanate from the National Commission on Higher Education in the country", the release noted.
According to the NCHE Communication, Dr. Wonkeryor has demonstrated exceptional leadership, ethical conduct, and dedication as a professional.
"We have full confidence in his abilities and character, and we will continue to stand by him in the face of these unfounded attacks", the statement disclosed.
As an organization committed to truth and fairness, the statement emphasized that the NCHE is committed to exploring all avenues to address these lies and misleading information through proper channels, because such misleading information has the propensity to invite untold number of misperceptions of an individualโs personality and puritanical character.
It can be recalled that the September 4, 2024 edition of the Verity Newspaper published in a front headline: โNCHE Sinks in Abuse, Wastage and fraud.โ
In the article, the newspaper accused the Executive Director Edward L. Wonkeryor of corruption and mismanagement at the institution.
