The Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concessions Commission-PPCC, Hon. Bodger Scott Johnson joined the World Bank and General Auditing Commission at a one-day dialogue reporting meeting on “Strengthening The Independence of The Audit Function In Liberia”.

This program, on the theme “Making It All Count” brought together stakeholders from Integrity Institutions and other key sector players to discuss critical reform following the World Bank assessment carried out at the #GAC. Those Institutions that made representation were the Public Account Committee of the National Legislature, #LACC, #IAA, #LEITI, #MFDP, INT Vice Presidency of the World Bank, U.S. Embassy amongst others.

The assessment conducted by the World Bank sought to review the Independence of the General Auditing Commission (GAC) and how it may affect the effectiveness of the external audit function in Liberia and to support the government in strengthening the audit institution’s performance and safeguarding the use of public funds.

It is also important to state that the assessment carried out focused on benchmarking exercises against international standards and practices to determine the extent of independence of #GAC. Following the bank’s report, it was indicated that the #GAC made a pass of 8.5 out of 10.

For his part, the #PPCC boss highlighted the need to allow integrity institutions to gain full financial autonomy which will reduce political influence and strengthen their respective roles. He further stressed the ongoing collaboration with the #GAC to checkmate non-compliance issues with Procuring Entities and how such efforts mitigate the risk of revenue losses to the government.
