Washington, D.C., October 17, 2025 — The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Madam Sara Beysolow Nyanti, met with the United States Secretary of State and Acting National Security Advisor, Mr. Marco Rubio, on October 16,  at the US White House, to reaffirm Liberia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing shared priorities in economic development, migration reform, and strategic investment.

Building on the diplomatic momentum from President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s landmark visit to President Donald Trump in July 2025, Minister Nyanti emphasized Liberia’s readiness to partner with the United States on critical infrastructure, minerals, and mobility frameworks. 

“This government is determined to turn Liberia’s natural wealth into shared prosperity for all Liberians,” Minister Nyanti said, noting that Liberia’s stability, democratic values, and commitment to reform make it a dependable partner for responsible American investment.

Secretary Rubio welcomed Liberia’s proactive engagement and reiterated the United States’ commitment to expanding economic and diplomatic collaboration.

He commended the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) for its work in supporting infrastructure projects that align with both the United States’ investment objectives and Liberia’s national development agenda. 

Migration and mobility frameworks featured prominently in the dialogue. Minister Nyanti shared the progress made under Liberia’s Presidential Taskforce that is addressing US immigration issues.

Liberia has been providing the US with 3 years visas, but since the war, the US has limited visas to a maximum of 1 year. In response, Secretary Rubio confirmed the United States’ intention to restore visa reciprocity across several categories, acknowledging Liberia’s reform efforts and its commitment to transparent and equitable migration practices. 

In late September, Minister Nyanti addressed migration challenges at a United States policy forum, where she joined Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau to discuss regional mobility and migration issues in Africa, and Liberia’s leadership in advancing fair migration frameworks. 

Her remarks underscored the importance of shared responsibility, trust, and mutual respect in shaping inclusive migration policies.

“This engagement with the United States is not only a diplomatic success; it is a victory for every Liberian who believes in a future defined by opportunity, dignity, and progress,” Minister Nyanti said speaking about the meeting in the White House West Wing.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to work on support for strengthening Liberia's systems to manage migration issues which come with security challenges and others, as well as for exploration of mechanisms for harnessing critical minerals into jobs that can boost the economy.

The Government of Liberia welcomes the renewed confidence expressed by the Government of the United States and looks forward to a new chapter of cooperation anchored in shared values, peace, and prosperity.
