Public Works Minister, Others Make Case For Liberia At UNFCC Conference

MONROVIA, June 15 (LINA) – Public Works Minister, Roland Giddings, and others are amongst top world officials to discuss pivotal issues on climate change at the United Nations Framework Convention (UNFCC) being held in Bonn, Germany.
The UNFCC is the United Nation's primary process for negotiating international agreements to limit dangerous climate change, and other critical issues such as climate finance and advancing progress on the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). These institutions are central to the Paris Agreement and represent each country's efforts to reduce National emissions and adapt to climate change impacts.
According to a statement from Ministry of Public Works, Minister Giddings is proud to announce his active participation in the 60th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) of the convention.
The Public Works Minister as the head of the Liberian delegation, is committed to Liberia's revised Nationally Determined Contributions under its Transport-Infrastructure Sector, noting that these initiatives are cross-cutting with various sectors, aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 15.1% below business-as-usual levels by 2030.
Minister Giddings engagements in the conference amongst others essential things that would benefit the country include, road upgrading and incorporating climate change considerations into Infrastructure plans, design and implementations as he emphasizes Liberia's Climate Goals.
He further mentioned to his counterparts that addressing Climate Change requires collective effort across all sectors to build resilience and effectively adapt to its impacts.
Also, as part of his engagements, the statement indicated that Minister Giddings met with Mr. Ousumane Fall Sarr, a Coordinator of West African Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance in fruitful discussions where he pledged his support and commitment to the Alliance's Mission, a platform that aim to foster Carbon Markets and result-based Climate Finance in West Africa.
He stressed the need for capacity building and innovation in Liberia, particularly in the areas of green-grey infrastructure and emerging technologies, and many other inventions, social viability and environmental sustainability as key components.
