200 Megawatt Solar Power Project Progressing

The Technical Committee working on the 200-Megawatt solar power energy project has reported significant progress and assured the government that the project will be completed within the timeframe.
The assurance was given to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Mr. R. Matenokay Tingban, during a meeting with the visiting World Bank delegation.

The World Bank is providing US$2 million in support for the preparatory activities of the solar IPP project in Liberia. 
The project, when completed, is expected to produce 100 megawatts of electricity for use in Buchanan, Grand Bassa, and Senkipa, Nimba Counties.

Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah told Journalists about progress on the 200-Megawatt solar power project at the Ministry of Information's regular press briefing held on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Minister Piah said the construction of the solar power facilities in Buchanan and Senkipa forms an integral part of reform efforts by the Liberian Government to increase electricity supply and shift total reliance on the Mount Coffee hydro Power plant in Montserrado County.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Mr. Tingban has commended all the actors, including the Liberia Electricity Corporation, the Liberia Land Authority, and the Ministry of Local Government, for the level of progress and urged them to remain focused and committed until the project is completed.
