Japan Foreign Minister Describe Liberia As Beacon of Hope For Democracy In Africa

The Foreign Minister of Japan, Madam Kamikawa Yomo has described Liberia as a beacon of hope for democracy in Africa.
Making remarks at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) held in Japan, from (August 24-27, 2024) Japan Foreign Minister stated that Liberia has maintained the peace by successfully conducting an election without the involvement of ECOWAS into elections crisis.
According to the Japanese Envoy, Liberia has displayed a hope for democracy without direct international election assistance or peacekeeping forces since civil war ended in 2003, adding that the sustenance of peace and security in any country foster sustainable development.
She underscored the critical role of peace in every nation, indicating that peace can contribute to economic growth, social progress and regional cooperation.
The Japanese Diplomat commended the people of Liberia for maintaining peace and successfully conducting three elections.
The Japan Foreign Minister pointed out that Liberia has displayed resilience in its democratic institutions with the last elections.
She emphasized that Liberia’s promising example might offer potent “peer influence” to her African neighbors.
“Liberia’s peaceful election and transfer of power indicate elements that the United States and international community can encourage other countries to model during the upcoming elections in Africa and elsewhere", Yomo stated
The TICAD conference is a major platform for dialogue and cooperation between Japan and African nations.
