Liberia To Tap Into China’s Agricultural Expertise

MONROVIA, June 18 (LINA) – Liberia’s Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, at the head of a five-man delegation is in the People’s Republic of China, to honor an official invitation from that country’s Ministry of Agriculture.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Agriculture Monday, Dr. Nuetah is set to hold discussions with his Chinese counterparts, exploring opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and strengthening diplomatic ties.       

The statement indicated that during the five-day visit, the delegates will attend high-level meetings at China’s Foreign Affairs and Agriculture ministries as well as visit key agricultural research institutions and facilities to gain firsthand insights into the practices and technologies that have contributed to China's agricultural success.

The statement noted that the Liberian delegation will visit the Agricultural Machinery and Engineering Laboratories at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences, the Luoyuan rice-fishery agricultural system, and the China Agricultural University.

Accordingly, the focus will be on sharing best practices, exploring technological advancements in agriculture, and identifying areas of collaboration that can yield mutual benefits.

Furthermore, the delegation will attend the opening ceremony of a one-month seminar on Agricultural technology and management for Liberia on June 20, 2024, in Beijing.

Meanwhile, Dr. Nuetah underscored the importance of the visit, emphasizing that it presents a unique opportunity for Liberia to learn from China’s advanced farming technologies and extensive industry experience.

He highlighted the potential transformative impact of sharing best practices, exploring technological advancements, and identifying areas of collaboration.

“As Liberia strives to unlock the full potential of its agricultural resources, partnerships with countries like China will be instrumental in realizing these goals. Such collaborations could potentially revolutionize Liberia's agricultural sector, ensuring food security, economic growth, employment opportunities, and poverty alleviation,” he emphasized.
