The National Disaster Management Agency, Grand Gedeh County Branch has begun data collection of flood victims in the county aimed at addressing the growing deplorable conditions of thousands of people affected by floods.

Speaking to the Liberia News Agency on September 22, 2024, in Zwedru, the County Coordinator Felton W. Gaye disclosed that the institution has begun massive data collection of people affected by recent incidents of floods in over seven communities across Zwedru.

According to Gaye, the affected communities include Krahville, ELRZ, Cheyeeville, Gunee Community and Airfield community amongst others.

Gaye outlined the focus of the exercise to include the number of persons affected including children, elderly, and students, amongst others.

He highlighted the negative economic impacts the flood victims are currently faced with, when many of the affected who are mostly market women and traders could not take their goods to the markets, some of which are perishable goods.

Gaye disclosed that he was acting in fulfilment of the directives of the Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency, Mr.  Ansu V. S Dulleh, who according to him, has set about five thousand flood victims as targets for the data collection exercise in the county.

The National Disaster Management Agency Act states in Section 2.3 that the NDMA shall promote institutional development to include coordinating resource mobilization for preparedness, risk and vulnerability reduction programs among Government, Donors, NGOs and other implementing partners, maintaining and operating an Emergency.
