MONROVIA, June 20 (LINA) – The Executive Director of the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), Mr. Ansu Dulleh has underscored the need for combined efforts to address the imminent threats of disaster in Liberia.

Speaking Wednesday, June 19, 2024, during the donation of food and non-food items to fire victims of the 11th street community in Sinkor, the NDMA boss emphasized the need for the Liberian Legislature to engage other humanitarian organizations to replicate a proactive approach to bolstering the Agency's response capabilities during critical situations.

Mr. Dulleh acknowledged the current limitations of the agency in handling the disasters as he highlighted the urgent need for additional budgetary support.

Meanwhile, Mr. Dulleh has also issued a stark caution to citizens, highlighting the potential dangers the rainy season may cause this year.

He called on Liberians to prepare themselves for the worst rainy season, citing that over 100,000 Liberians are expected to be affected by the impact of heavy rainfall due to climate change.

He called on the Public to prepare themselves for calamities in the coming months, including strong winds, inland flooding, and sea erosion, among others.

The NDMA official emphasized the need for citizens to be vigilant and be prepared for potential disasters.

For his part, Montserrado County District #8 Representative, Prince A. Toles commended the NDMA for its prompt response to the situation.

Representative Toles assured the institution of his fullest commitment in working with his Legislative colleagues to ensure budgetary increment for the NDMA next budget year.

He indicated that increased budgetary allotment will enhance the agency’s effort in disaster response and management.

The District #8 lawmaker then provided L$50,000 to the fire victims as his contribution towards their rebuilding process.
