In an effort to put smiles on the faces of school-going kids, President Joseph N. Boakai, Sr. through the Cytarus initiative with support from the National Port Authority (NPA) has climaxed a donation exercise of school materials to public schools in the Western region of Liberia.
Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) during the distribution exercise, the Chief Executive Officer of the Cytarus Initiative, Madam Cytarus Grace Dahn, stated that the donation of school materials was done at reachable public schools in Grand Cape Mount, Bomi and Gbarpolu Counties respectively.
She disclosed that the donation which began on Monday September 2 and ended on Thursday, September 5, 2024, is geared toward helping students in elementary and Junior high schools in the Western part of Liberia.
"We believe that no child should be left behind, and we are dedicated to making sure that every student, regardless of their background, has access to the resources they need for a successful school year.
Through the "JNB Go Back to School Campaign", we are not just distributing supplies, but we are also investing in the future of Liberia", She noted.
The CEO of the Cytarus Initiative emphasized the need to ensure the realization of the Presidentβs desire to ensure that Liberian children go back and stay in school to contribute to the growth and development of the country.
According to her, President Boakai cares for the children of Liberia, thatβs why he is ensuring the availability of basic school materials such as books, bags, pencils, erasers amongst others.
Madam Dahn revealed that the total cost of the items donated amounts to US$53 thousand, which includes the purchasing and printing of the items.
"The President and many of us found it very difficult to get basic materials to go to school, so he cares about you, and he wants you to always be in school," she stated.
Madam Dahn also encouraged students of the Jebbeh Kiazolu Elementary and Junior High School to focus on their education to enable them to contribute to the livelihood of their unborn generation.
She added that acquiring quality education will enable the students to contribute to the overall development of the country.
For his part, the Principal of the C.H. Dweh Junior and Central High School in Bomi County, Mr. Joseph K. Smith expressed gratitude over the kind gesture from the President and the Cytarus initiative.
At the same time, the Principal of the Free Pentecostal Global Mission High School in Tubmanburg, Mr. Samuel Fallah Morris, expressed gratitude over the items that were given to the students.
According to him, the donation is timely because there are a lot of students that have started the 2024-2025 academic year with a single copybook due to some financial challenges.
He added that some students were using plastic bags in place of book-bags because of the financial struggle their parents are going through.
He appealed to the Liberian leader for another philanthropist and financial assistance so that the administration can build the school fence to ensure the safety of the kids attending the school facility.
Also, the Principal of the Bassa Camp Public School in Suehn- Mecca District, Bomi County Mr. Venery B. Tyler extolled the President of the Republic of Liberia through the Cytarus initiative for the timely gifts to the students.
"We are very happy and appreciative of this unique and timely gifts from the President because there are many parents who were thinking and struggling to get these school materials. Since school resumed so many students have been bringing plastic bags to school instead of book-bags," the principal emphasized.
