According to a dispatch from LiMA dated September 5, 2024, the agreement focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries in maritime transport, aimed at boosting socio-economic growth and prosperity of both nations.

Addressing a pivotal bilateral meeting in Beijing, China recently, the statement quoted Liberia's Maritime Commissioner General, Neto Zarzar Lighe, as stressing that the agreement will enhance freedom of navigation and cooperation on key maritime issues such as vessel treatment, seafarers’ documentation, and crew management.

Highlighting the key areas of the Maritime Transport Agreement, Lighe pointed out that the multilateral cooperation focuses on the commitment and dedication to working with China on global maritime issues through international organizations, including efforts for shipping decarbonization and maritime security.
