Liberia Pursues Collaboration With Indonesia To Foster Industrialization In Agriculture Sector

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has disclosed that they are working closely with the Indonesian government as well as private investors to explore opportunities that would lead to industrialization particularly in the agriculture sector.
Speaking Tuesday September 3, during a session at the 2024 Indonesia β Africa Forum II, Deputy Foreign Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, Dr. Ibrahim Nyei, named trade, health, agriculture as well as energy as key areas of development cooperation that the Liberian government seeks to pursue.
Outlining critical sectors of strategic importance for development cooperation between Liberia and Indonesia, Dr. Nyei stated that the government will work tirelessly with Indonesia in a bid to boost the agricultural sector as part of the Governmentβs ARREST Agenda.
According to him, the Liberian government recalled the historic and long-standing bilateral relations between Liberia and Indonesia, especially the critical role of the two countries in the formulation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which was adopted by all United Nations members in 2015.
Minister Nyei used the occasion to solicit the support of Indonesia as Liberia seeks election to the UN Security council.
βWe know that Indonesia has a strong voice at the UN, Liberia looks forward to the support of the Indonesian government to buttress advocacy for greater representation of smaller countries on the UN Security Councilβ he said.
The Foreign Ministry official revealed that the trade relations between Liberia and Indonesia would be further strengthened as they also collaborate on global political issues.
Meanwhile, the Minister lamented the lack of diplomatic representation on both sides as a factor that could hinder the effective implementation of the development agreement between Liberia and Indonesia.
On the sidelines of the Indonesian-Africa Forum, Minister Nyei also met with Siti Nugrahu Mauludiah, Director General for Information and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
During his meeting with Madam Nugrahu, Minister Nyei advanced the case for Indonesia to promote Liberian made products by exporting them to Indonesia.
