Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Applauds Liberiaโs Strong Diplomatic Push for a UN Security Council Seat at AU Summit
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia โ Former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has congratulated Liberia following its official response, delivered by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sara Beysolow Nyanti to the Report of the African Unionโs Committee of Ten (C-10) on United Nations Security Council Reform.
The C-10, led by Sierra Leoneโs President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, presented its report during the 38th Session of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
President Sirleaf praised Liberiaโs firm stance and diplomatic engagement in advocating for Africaโs common position on UN Security Council reform.
Former President Sirleafโs comment was in reaction to Minister Beysolow Nyantiโs statement in which the Foreign Minister highlighted Liberiaโs longstanding commitment to multilateralism and its dedication to strengthening Africaโs voice in global decision-making.
Minister Beysolow Nyanti highlighted the importance of Africa speaking with one voice on this critical matter and urged continued solidarity among AU member states.
The Former Liberian President, for her part, cautioned that Africa must remain resolute in securing permanent representation at the Security Council as Liberiaโs advocacy strengthens our continentโs demand for a more just and equitable global governance system. She concluded by congratulating the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Liberiaโs response at the AU Summit aligns with its broader efforts to secure a non-permanent seat on the Security Council, reinforcing its leadership in peace, security, and global diplomacy.
The country remains committed to working with regional and international partners to advance the AUโs common position, as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
