Liberia Government Scales Up Ebola Preparedness, Prevention Nationwide
The Liberian Government, through the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), has stepped up and strengthened surveillance, preparedness, and rapid response systems in the wake of the regional outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The government assured that there has been no confirmed Ebola Case in Liberia. Deputy Information Minister for Public Affairs, Mr. Daniel O Sando, reflecting on the devastating effects of the Ebola Virus in yesteryears, said the government has instituted several precautionary and preventive measures to combat the virus. Minister Sando said NPHIL, MOH, and partners have strengthened early detection, laboratory testing, and rapid response systems nationwide.
He said the government has installed an automatic walk-through sanitizer at the Roberts International Airport, strengthened EVD preparedness, and established holding and isolation centers for travelers. He told Journalists at the Ministry of Information's regular press briefing on Thursday, May 28, that regional laboratories have been set up in Bong, Nimba, and Maryland Counties, backed by a massive nationwide campaign in the 16 local languages.
The Deputy Information Minister said the general public remains a critical partner in the prevention of the deadly Ebola virus, urging them to report symptoms early and consistently, and to follow public health guidance to help protect communities and prevent potential spread.
This week, the Liberian Government provided 25 new fleets of Toyota Land Cruisers as ambulances to hospitals, clinics, and health facilities across the 15 counties of Liberia.
